Cascade of Authors on November 6 at 1 - 3 p.m. at West River Library

 

The Cascade of Authors is a local author fair held annually at the EPLS - West River location.

This year's 11th Annual Cascade of Authors will be on Saturday, November 6, 2021, from 1 - 3 p.m.

Eight local authors have been selected. Each one will present a 15-minute discussion on their book(s). For the remaining time of the fair, the authors will host a table where they can interact with patrons, sell, and autograph their book(s).

Meet the Authors

Headshot of Kurt Fawver - Cascade of Authors 2021 Kurt Fawver is a writer of horror, weird fiction, and literature that oozes through the cracks of genre. His stories have won and been nominated for the Shirley Jackson Award and the Bram Stoker Award. You can find his previously published work in venues such as Nightmare, Lightspeed, The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, Weird Tales, Vastarien, Best New Horror, and Year's Best Weird Fiction. He's published three short story collections--Forever, in Pieces, The Dissolution of Small Worlds, and the forthcoming We are Happy, We are Doomed--as well as numerous chapbooks. Kurt lives in northeast Ohio, where he teaches writing at a delightful community college.
Headshot of Maritza A. Molis - Cascade of Authors 2021 Maritza A. Molis is the author of Autism in Our Home and The Autism Stress Less Parent Guide. Maritza writes books, and blogs on www.strategies2cope.wordpress.com. She is best known for religious and spiritual nonfiction. She podcasts regularly on The Autism Stress Less Podcast found on Apple, Spotify and Anchor podcasts. She is a Biblical Counselor/Mental Health Support Coach in Elyria, Ohio. Her middle son Jaiden was diagnosed with a rare form of epilepsy, Autistic Disorder and an Intellectual Disability by the age of 2. Born in Elyria, Maritza grew up in Lorain, Ohio in a small latin community. She graduated with a Psychology Degree from Liberty University and a Master's Diploma from Light University in Biblical Counseling. She enjoys time reading, being a home educator, spending time with family, friends, drinking coffee, eating good food and worshipping at her local church.

Emilia Rosa was raised in Brazil. During her childhood she lived in Rio de Janeiro, where every sunny weekend was generally spent at the beach. Having moved to South of Brazil, she holds fond memories of summer vacations spent with her married sister in Rio, which also involved many hours at the beach. Her love for the sea and Rio de Janeiro, as well as that city’s history, permeates the pages of her first fiction book, Finding Cristina. During her teens she avidly read in Portuguese, Spanish, English, French and Italian. A few years ago she developed a love for murder mysteries written during the Golden Age of Detective Fiction. Emilia moved back to the United States several years ago. She has published poetry and is planning a sequel to Finding Cristina.

Headshot of Edmund A. Rossman - Cascade of Authors 2021 Edmund A. Rossman III has been involved with libraries and broadcasting since 1980. After surviving cancer he retired from the Shaker Heights Public Library (OH) in 2018. His latest book, A Guy’s Guide to Throat Cancer (2020) is based on the Caring Bridge journal entries Ed wrote during his battle with cancer. His upbeat approach in these entries was to encourage his friends, family and colleagues to look at life through a guy’s eyes. Writing as if he was discussing things on a bar stool, not in a hospital room, Ed writes in everyman language that’ll be helpful for patients and caregivers alike. He is the author of Castles Against Ignorance: How to Make Libraries Great Educational Environments (2006) and 40+ New Revenue Sources for Libraries and Nonprofits (2016). He also talks on his favorite author, Stephen King, in libraries and nursing homes, using his own photography of book settings.

Honey Howard Rothschild is the author of the non-fiction book “A Million Prosecutor Mistakes: How They Lost the Trial of Trayvon Martin’s Confessed Killer (George Zimmerman)” which she wrote from her unique perspective as a prosecutor with 30 years of courtroom experience. The author is a graduate of Elyria High School, the Tisch School of Film at New York University and Howard University College of Law. She began her career in the family’s law practice with her sister Attorney Audrey Mendenhall and her father, the late Judge John A. Howard. Attorney Rothschild’s private law practice was followed by an appointment as a Magistrate in the Lorain County Common Pleas Court and for the past 25 years, she was a Prosecutor/Assistant Law Director in the Elyria Law Director’s office.

The author’s next book, “Not My Prez: How I survived 12 Presidents and Donald Trump As A Colored, Negro, Black and/or African-American” will be published next Spring.
Headshot of Shannon Scott-Miller - Cascade of Authors 2021 Shannon Scott-Miller, MAAT, ATR-BC (She/her) is a board certified art therapist who received her masters in art therapy from Vermont College of Norwich University. She has been a practicing art therapist for over 25 years specializing in working with children and teens. Shannon spent 20 years at the University of Michigan Health Care Systems working in pediatrics and with adults both in the hospital and outpatient settings. As executive director of the Art Therapy Studio in Cleveland, Shannon worked with partnering agencies designing and supervising art therapy programs tailored to the varied needs of each individual agency's clients. Shannon's work in gender identity began while working inpatient pediatrics with children who are born intersex and expanded to the transgender community while raising two gender-expansive children. Shannon is the co-author of the recently published book, "Art Therapy with Transgender and Gender-Expansive Children and Teenagers". Shannon specializes in providing art therapy that adapts to the cognitive, physical and emotional abilities of her clients to achieve personal goals.
Headshot of Mark Strecker - Cascade of Authors 2021 Mark Strecker has wanted to be a writer since he first learned to read. He also possesses a passion for history. He graduated from Bowling Green State University, Ohio, with a bachelor of arts degree in history in 1994, and a Masters of Library Science (MSLS) from Clarion University in 2008, earning the latter to give him the skills needed to write well-researched narrative history. Like many writers, he has held a variety of occupations, including selling appliances, running a toy department in a retail store, and as a graphic artist/art director at an advertising agency. He finally broke down and bought a house so he could have a cat. He’s not sure if the cat idea was such a good one as she now owns the house and just lets him stay there.

John Vanek was born and raised in Ohio. He is a novelist, poet, and physician. His Father Jake Austin Series is set in Lorain County, Ohio, where he practiced medicine for 25 years. His main character, Father Jake Austin, is a 21st century version of G.K. Chesterton's Father Brown with a touch of PBS's Grantchester. The fourth mystery in the series, Bedeviled, was released on September 14th by Coffeetown Press in Seattle.
